Worthy Project

Nurturing Minds is a US-based non-profit organization that seeks to expand access to quality education for poor and marginalized Tanzanian girls, who are at-risk of falling into exploitative labor conditions. Nurturing Minds financially supports the work of registered, non-profit, non-governmental Tanzanian organizations working to improve access to quality education for girls. Currently Nurturing Minds is supporting Secondary Education for Girls’ Advancement (SEGA) in Tanzania in developing the Sega Secondary School for Girls located in Morogoro, Tanzania.
Secondary Education for Girls’ Advancement (SEGA) in Tanzania is developing a secondary boarding school and scholarship program for girls; targeting bright, motivated and economically disadvantaged girls who otherwise would not have access to secondary education. The secondary school will accommodate 300 girls, with 50 students entering the school each year from Form I through Form VI (Grades 6-12). Students on scholarship (50% of student body) must be truly “vulnerable” or needy of the scholarship, having no other means of attending secondary school.
I am writing about this because it is the kind of project that can have a real impact on peoples lives- to reduce suffering and improve conditions for many and because I know several of the folks running this project and they are trustworthy and effective.
Take a look at their web site where you will see a more complete description of the project and the people involved.
